Cool I used to love Arlo Guthrie when I was a kid! unless I am still a kid now, which means I used to love Arlo Guthrie when I was younger... Hmmm... Well Anyways... He wrote This Land is Your Land didn't he? I really like that song. Are you enjoying your music?
I don't know if Arlo Guthrie wrote "This Land is Your Land". I have only listened to one of his songs and even though I loved it, I can't say in general yet wether i like his music or not. The one song I've listened to is "Alice's Resturaunt." He plays the same guitar beat over and over and over and over and tells a story. It is seventeen minutes long.
Yay! Hunter's on the blog! I believe it was Woody Guthrie, Arlo's father, who wrote "This Land is Your Land." They both were famous folk musicians. Arlo is still alive; Woody is not. "Alice's Restaurant" is a true classic; Hunter, I'm glad you'll be sharing it with us soon.
I've never heard of Arlo Guthrie. What style of music is Arlo? I'm glad you like the song that you listened to. I remember last blog you weren't that in love with your music. Is there only guitar in Arlo's songs?
The name Arlo makes me think of the sunday cartoon in the paper ARLO and JANIS. But I have feeling that neither of them are linked. Any whom. Does it really go on for 17 MINUTES!!!???? And I thought Miles Davis wrote long songs. Are his other songs short? The longest song I've ever heard was 11 minutes long by weird al (no not 4 minutes by Madonna) (If you don't get the joke I don't blame you... it's kind of dumb) The 11 minute song was called "stuck at the drive-through" So if long songs don't drive you completely bonkers you should look it up. Have fun.
Hello, Arlo Gutherie sounds interesting. I'm surprised that he has a song that goes on for 18 minutes - I know he doesn't sing the whole time, but still...its soo long. I can't sing that long! I mean I can...but you know what I mean. Arlo Gutherie reminds me of a character in a book named Gunther - obviously why I made that connection is because of their names. But Gunther and Arlo Gutherie are two very different people. For one, Arlo Gutherie is living, and Gunther isn't. For anyone who remembers (ha ha :)) Gunther is Count Olaf in Lemony Snicket. Arlo Gutherie's first name, reminds me of a curly hairdo - probably because of the style afro.
18 MINUTES ARE YOU KIDDING?!!! Have you listened to this life-long song multiple times? Because that's a huge chunk of your life you just used. Not implying your life is short or anything. (knock on wood) On that note, Adieu. :)
c, in the 18 minute song, he does sing the whole time. charlie, yes i did blog and i like my music. hannah, i have listened to all of the songs. exept, the names are mixed up. i dont blog often because i dont usually listen to music often so i have nothing to write about.
Hunter, maybe you should write about how the music makes feel... or what you hear when you listen to it... or what you see.. or what you taste, or smell. Hope that helps. >:> <- It's a chicken telling you to have fun listening to you music.
I just listened to Arlo's other funny song called,"Motorcycle (Signifigance of the pickle)" he's riding his bike on a mountain and his string of his guitar breaks, gets caught around a yield sign, and he flies off the cliff. in the air he writes a song-
-I don't want a pickle, I just wanna ride my motorcicle
I don't want a tickle, I just wanna ride my motorcicle
and IIIIII don't wanna die, I just wanna ride my motorcy...cle
- then he lands on a police car, and the police man puts a ticket in a pickle, and shoves it down his throat. then he's thinking,
-
-I don't want a pickle, I just wanna ride my motorcicle
I don't want a tickle, I just wanna ride my motorcicle
and IIIIII don't wanna die, I just wanna ride my motorcy...cle
taaaa daaaaaa!
I think he was geinius to connect the story back to the chourus.
I do not really understand that, but it is kind of awesome. It is one of those things that you think "Wow, that is brilliant. Someone brilliant came up with that, and it takes someone brilliant to comprehend it and to fully appreciate it. Too bad I am not brilliant and it just looks like a bunch of random words that rhyme strung together!" Also, I LOVED Alice's Restaurant! My favorite part was the part where he goes to the shrink, and he says "KILL! I want to KILL THINGS! KILL,Kill,kill...!" It was rather glorious, and brilliant, and spontaneous, and also rather odd. Eccentric. It was eccentric, as eccentric covers all those adjectives with just one word.
hunter - eccentric also means (of a person or their behavior) unconventional and slightly strange : my favorite aunt is very eccentric. just thought you'd like to know. arlo's voice sounds somewhat interesting. I've never heard someone's voice that was jittery - well, maybe except my own, but oh well.
Jon is listening to Bob Dylan. I kind of like Arlo Guthrie's voice better though... I think Bob Dylan's lyrics are deeper, and more poetic, whereas Arlo Guthrie's music is more political, and MUCH more amusing.
Eccentric means strange... But it is also more than that... Like when you see something that is just odd, like it is something you don't normally expect to see, but it is strange in a way that is kind of brilliant, and gloriously odd. Like different in a way that is really cool. Unique things are the coolest, in my opinion. And C, your voice isn't jittery. You have a nice voice.
I think we've established what eccentric means. Hunter I really like Alice's restaurant. And I think the "Motorcycle (the art of the pickle)" could possibly my favorite song of all times now. (not really but it's absolutely fabulous. I haven't heard the actually music but even if the music sound like finger nail against a chalk board it would be a good song because those lyrics are AWESOME!!!
HI hunter I hope that you are enjoying your strech project more than last time. What genre of music is arlo? If he is simmilar to bob dylan than I most likely would not listen to hime. Is arlo simmilar to jason maraz?
hi everyone, I think that this strech project was better than my first. Jazz was to repetitive and boring, but Folk is fast and head bobbing. I like folk alot now. before, I didn't even consider it, but now i'm into it. folk makes me think of the color tan because whenever I picture a folk singer, he is always in texas with endless dirt plain behind him.

I didn't even see that I put a pun about driving you bonkers right after I said drive through.
ReplyDeleteUgh. that last post was like a pun sandwich.
hi
ReplyDeleteHunter, how about a longer comment? ;)
ReplyDeleteEmilie, Arlo does folk music, and there is mostly guitar in his songs.
ReplyDeleteMaddy, actuly the song goes on for 18 minutes. his other songs are way shorter.

Ok that looks nothing like a chicken so I'll just tell you to have fun listening to your music.

Hi Hunter, it was fun to hear Alice's Restaurant in class today. He cracks me up! Listen to your music some more and give us some fresh insights!

Eccentric.
It was eccentric, as eccentric covers all those adjectives with just one word.
what does eccentric mean?
ReplyDeletehunter - eccentric means, like, unusual, uncommon.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, Arlo's music is very livening and kind of jittery. His voice sounds so much like Bob Dillon.
ReplyDeletehunter - eccentric also means (of a person or their behavior) unconventional and slightly strange : my favorite aunt is very eccentric. just thought you'd like to know. arlo's voice sounds somewhat interesting. ReplyDeleteSpencer, only arlo's voice sounds like Bob dillan, not really the music...well, maybie kind of..., but not really. i think...
ReplyDeleteanyways, who is "Ariadne Elorian Scian"? is it Amielia?
Maddy, maybie I could play the song for you sometime, or at lunch or something.
yes it is Amelia. Thanks that would be interesting to hear arlo for a strech project next year.
ReplyDeleteI think I have grown to like folk a little, even though i can't often understand what they say. Arlo gets my finger tapping.
ReplyDeletehi everyone, I think that this strech project was better than my first. Jazz was to repetitive and boring, but Folk is fast and head bobbing. ReplyDeleteIf I had to do another stretch project I would do the Beatles.
ReplyDeleteah that's nice.
