Last night, I listened to Vanished and it was interesting. I like how they have the electronic sound, but then they have a weird bells sound. I really like it. The music video was rather different, but it was cool. It really went with the music.
Dear switzerlandeo, I'm glad you like your music! Crystal Castles' album sounds very...(there's no other word for it) scary... Vanished. It's a good album name, i have to admit. Is Crystal Castles the artists' real name?
Crystal Castles, Vanished... Cadence is right, very intriguing and mysterious names... So it is electronic, with bells. Cool. Vocals too? I like thinking about what kind of music video I would have for a song, and then watching the real one one youtube, it is really fun. I hope you really like your music Switzerland (Almost as cool a name as Vanished, but then I would be frightened that you would dissapear, so Switzerland is much better.)
Actually Cadence the album name is something like Crystal Castles, Vanished is just one of the songs. That's okay though. They do have vocals, they are just kind of odd. Also I just listened to Crimewave, still going with the mysterious theme, and it was cool. It was long, but I thought is was pretty. To answer your question Hannah I don't listen to electronic music and I usually to pop and stuff besides electronic.
EO, Oh! Well, then. Now I know! :) I listened to the clips on iTunes, and I can't help but think that they kinda somehow sound like The Black Ghosts...you know, the artists on the Twilight album who sing Full Moon...you know what I'm talking about the lyrics are when the full moon comes that's when I'll come hoommmmme...I've been going out to seeee what I can sewww...yeah. Sorry about that. Anyways...is Crystal Castles to electronical for you at all? Sometimes too electronic music gets to me...and my head. Its like angry, digital bees, buzzing around in my mind.
I don't think I'd be able to listen to like 9 songs one after the next, that might bring on some digital bees. It is kind of dancey, their songs are upbeat but not super fast. I just listened to Untrust Us and it was odd. It sounded as thought they were speaking in a different language. In Vanished I could understand a little of what they were saying, but not in this one. Also at the end of the song it went into heavy metal and just stopped really abruptly. It was really cool though, a nice addition to the song.
Also I found out that there are only two people in Crystal Castles. I just finished listening to Black Panther, which is my favorite so far. There are seventeen songs on the album that I'm listening to and I've only listened to 4 of them. It was super cool. I really like how they have these weird high pitched xylophones in the background. I'm not sure if they are high pitched xylophones, but that's what they sound like. However, I remember watching one of their concerts on video and I saw a person playing the electric piano, so that's probably what is making those cool noises. I'm really excited to listen to my next song!
Hi All, Switzerland I am so happy that you like you music. (I hope I am understanding that right) I'm not sure if I miles davis will be music I listen to in the future. But if you like your music then you'll have another artist to add to your metaphorical list of artists you like. Yay! Do you know the names of the two people in Crystal Castles? If they were a butterfly what kind would they be?
I don't actually know the names of the two people, but I will find out and if Crystal Castles was a butterfly they would be a pipevine swallowtail. I just listened to Courtship Dating. It was one of the scariest songs ever, I really liked it though. In the song it talked about people's eyes rolling back and then there was this man's yell, yet it sounded like a roar almost, and then a scream. It was really frightening. However, it was very different from their other songs. In fact all of their songs are not alike completely. I don't tend to like it when an artist does like 3 songs but they all sound the same. That's another thing that I like about Crystal Castles is because they aren't like that.
Also, I am currently listening to Alice Practice. It is very strange. It doesn't really seem like a song to dance to, but the people in the music video are dancing like crazy. So now I just finished listening to Alice Practice and it's very very different than their other music. Usually in other songs they have a time in the song where they slow down or even stop, but in this song it's the same the whole way through. However, I really enjoyed it.
That would be cool to have their music in a movie Sarah. Switzerland if you don't like artists that make songs that all sound alike you probably wouldn't like Miles Davis. A lot of his songs sound alike. I'll be sitting there listening to one song and when it's over I'll realize that I'm already on a different song and I didn't even notice. I don't mind it though. It means I my mellow time won't be interrupted by anything louder because it will be the same. If that made any sense I'm glad. Is Crystal castles made up of all male musicians or something different? Have fun 8 )
Crystal Castles is made up of a woman and a man. The man's name is Ethan Kath and the vocalist, the woman, her name is Alice Glass. Which is really weird because one of their songs is called Alice Practice. They are from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I was watching a music video for black panther I think and it was really weird. Also apparently the lead singer, Alice Glass, was involved in a car accident. They have had to postpone many concerts and things like that. There was this like homeless person and he was sleeping on the ground. Then along came some other guy with a brick and he dropped it right on the homeless person's head. I also listened to xxzxcuzx me. I didn't like it at all. I looked up the lyrics and they were really strange. They also swore once in them. That's the only information that I know about them though.
Okay just to clear things up a little bit, the homeless person part was in the strange music video. I was reading over my posts to find out which songs I had listened to, and I read this last one and that part didn't really make sense.
I just listened to Magic Spells. It was alright. In the middle of the song, (literally the middle) it went to just one instrument. So I thought that was cool. Also the beginning of the song was different than the ending of the song. It was almost like the halfway point changed the song. If anyone is confused this is how the song was laid out: a few instruments beginning - one instrument middle - a few different instruments ending. I hope that made sense and if you're still confused you can always listen to the song. I also watched a really awesome music video for Black Panther. See I'm thinking about doing Black Panther for my listening example and I just wanted to see what the music video was like. Hannah, could I sign up for a day to do my listening example. I'm pretty sure I wasn't absent the day everyone else signed up.
I just listened to 1991. 1991 is now my favorite song by Crystal Castles. It was really different from their other songs. It was a little bit shorter than their other songs too. The reason that I liked it so much was because it had really interesting beats in it and instruments. Another way it was different from their other songs is because it didn't have words or singing at all. I really really liked it. So now I might play 1991 for my listening example.
Hi Eo, when you said 1991 I thought you were talking about the song 1985 and I was thinking "that's not by them". Then I realized you said 1991, an entirely different year altogether and then the whole world made sense again... or at least the post before this one and.... this one.
Hi EO, your listening example is April 8 (I signed you up). I am intrigued by all your comments so far!! I haven't heard Crystal Castles before, but I'm beginning to think I'd like to check them out . . . and I don't know if I can wait until April 8 . . . so maybe I'll do a little investigation on my own.
Thanks so much for signing me up Hannah! I'm really glad you're interested in Crystal Castles too. I hope you like them. I just listened to Reckless. I really liked it a lot. It was sort of lo key, and it wasn't crazy like some of their other songs. I really enjoyed it. It so many different sounds. When you listen really close you can hear so many noises and beats. Crystal Castles makes those kind of songs where you can listen to it one time and hear one thing. Then listen to it again and hear the same thing plus more!
I looooove music that's like that! My favorite musicians are all like that . . . I notice new stuff in their music even after listening to it dozens of times.
Hi everyone, sorry I was gone for so long. But now I'm back and I just listened to Air War. It was really interesting because it was like almost the same the whole way through but it wasn't. Also the words to the song we really different. It sounded like they were going blue, blue, blue. In the music video they had a lot of Pac Man pictures and the song did remind me a lot of Pac Man.
I just listened to Good Time while winding ribbon. I think that when I do something else while listening to my music I don't really get the full effect of the music. I still liked the song a lot. It was a little bit repetitive but the beat was so cool that I didn't really care. Winding ribbon isn't doing a lot, but I seemed to focus more on getting the ribbon on the cardboard wheel thing, than listening to the song. Towards the end though, I realized what I was doing and I started paying more attention to the music.
Wow I haven't looked at this blog in a while and I have to say I missed a lot here. You guys have talked about so much! So eo you like your music... it'd rock... let's see what other questions I can use to dissect your music. (Dissect being used in the least morbid way) Ok. When did the band first get together? If your music was a holiday which would it be? Do the songs on your album sound the same or do they alter in speed and rhythm? Thanks for listening d: ) <- he's wearing a hat.
Well if my music was a holiday it would be March 5, "Multiple personality day" and yes it is a real holiday. The reason I picked that holiday is because there songs are so different sometimes that you would think that they aren't the same band. The songs on my album are similar but they all have a couple things that make them unique and different from each other. Crystal Castles first got together in December 2003. What's really interesting is that on my hunt for the answer to that question that I just answered, I found Crystal Castles official band website.
Yesterday I forgot to post about two songs that I listened to. The first one was Knights. I really liked it and I think it shows a lot of what Crystal Castles is about, so I might play it for my listening example. I also listened to Love and Caring. It was alright. I didn't like it as much as the other songs I have listened to. I listened to both of these songs while I was getting dressed in the morning. The reason I don't have that much to say about those songs is because I probably was paying more attention to what I was going to wear rather than what I was listening to. I like both of the songs though. Knights had some really interesting instruments and Love and Caring had interesting vocals.
MULTIPLE PERSONALITY DAY!?! THAT'S AWESOME! A lot of music has different personalities on one album. There could be sad songs, happy, mad, rip out your eyeballs it makes you so mad, love songs, and miscellaneous. Your music sounds really interesting. Do you think I could listen to it a little more with you? Thanks. 8: ) <-she has a bow.
Hi EO! I finally listened to Crystal Castles!! I listened to "Crimewave" and "Vanished", 'cause they were the most popular youtube videos for CC. They were pretty cool. I have to say I didn't listen too closely, 'cause I was chatting with a friend online at the same time. It's interesting that you've had a similar experience . . . doing something else makes it hard to fully pay attention to Crystal Castles.
I am glad you are enjoying your stretch and finding it interesting EO! Crystal Castles is such a cool name... I will have to listen to them, but I am going to bed now... WPML! (Will-Post-More-Later)
Well I played a couple of my songs for a couple of people. First i played Black Panther for Sarah, C and Mia!. They seemed to like it. Also I played Air War for : ) Maddy*. I think she liked the song, but I'm not sure.
I know this comment is a little late...but for your stretch project listening example, I drew Rapunzel. Yeah...a little random, but I just thought I'd shoot that out there. Your music was nice. No offense to Crystal Castles, but I thought their music was kinda going to be sorta princessy (not really princessy, just sort of) if you know what I mean. So...thank for that experience, Emilie.
Your welcome Cadence, I'm glad you liked it. I'm pretty sure this comment is late to, but I just wanted to post it. Overall I thought Crystal Castles was an excellent choice for my stretch project. It was very different than anything that I usually listen to. However I think by listening to Crystal Castles I have found that maybe I should try other electronic music as well. I'm very happy that I listened to Crystal Castles.
Last night, I listened to Vanished and it was interesting. I like how they have the electronic sound, but then they have a weird bells sound. I really like it. The music video was rather different, but it was cool. It really went with the music.
